Paid $200 for a fancy budgeting app and it burned me hard

I signed up for YNAB last January thinking it would finally fix my spending habits. After 8 months of manual entry and confusing categories, I realized I was spending more time tracking money than actually enjoying it. My bank's free app does 90% of the same stuff without making me feel like I'm doing homework. Anyone else ditch a paid tool and go back to the basic free version?

Forget the app and just set up automatic transfers to savings on payday instead.

@nora_park has a point about automation but the real trap is buying into the hype that a tool will fix your brain. Sticking with the free version forces you to learn the actual habits instead of paying for an illusion of control.
