Just hit $4,200 in my change jar and I feel dumb for waiting so long to start

I dumped out a big pickle jar I keep on my dresser in Columbus last Tuesday. Counted it all out on the kitchen table and it came to $4,200.16 in coins and crumpled ones. I started this thing 19 months ago just tossing in whatever was in my pocket at night. My buddy keeps telling me I should have put that same cash into a savings account with interest instead of a jar, and now I'm wondering if he's got a point. What do you all do with your spare change, jar, bank, or something else?
