Am I the only one who moved my savings to a separate bank just to stop myself from spending it?
For years I kept my emergency fund in the same account as my checking, and every month I'd tell myself I wouldn't touch it. I'd "borrow" $50 here and $100 there for dumb stuff, and by 2022 I had about $800 saved when I should have had closer to $5k. A guy at my old job in Dayton told me his trick was opening a savings account at a totally separate bank with no app on his phone. I set one up last March with $1,200 to start, and since then I've only moved money out twice for actual emergencies. The part that helped was waiting 2 days for a transfer instead of tapping a button. It's not fancy but it works, and I'm sitting at $4,300 now. Does anyone else do the separate bank thing or do you have a different way to keep your hands off it?
