Torque spec from a retired diesel guy saved my axle job in Tulsa

Old timer at the parts counter told me to retorque the spindle nut after 50 miles, blew it off as overkill, but the wheel bearing started singing on I-44 and he was dead right, anyone else skip the recheck and pay for it?

Ain't that the truth? I did the exact same thing on my F-250 out near Elk City, figured I knew better than some old timer and skipped the 50 mile recheck. Fast forward to a trip to Amarillo and I'm on the shoulder at midnight with a hub so hot you could fry an egg on it. Cost me a new bearing, a seal, and a tow truck driver who laughed at me the whole way back. That retired guy probably saved you a few hundred bucks, and I wish I'd listened the first time. Now I retorque everything twice, even the lug nuts, just out of spite.
