Swore by impact guns for lug nuts, then a stripped stud on a 2016 Civic changed my tune
For years I hit every lug nut with the impact gun on full blast and never thought twice about it. Last month a customer's 2016 Civic came in with a chewed up stud, and I had to eat the cost of replacing it since it happened in my bay. Now I break them loose by hand with a breaker bar first and only zip them back on with the gun at low torque. Costs me maybe 30 extra seconds per wheel but I haven't wrecked a stud since. How many of you still go straight to the gun, or did something similar make you switch?
