Spent 9 hours chasing a no-start on a 2004 Corolla over a $14 part
Had a 2004 Corolla come in last month with a crank no-start, and I figured it was a quick fuel pump job. I checked spark first, good, then fuel pressure at the rail, also good, so I moved on to injector pulse. That looked fine too. I pulled the plugs and they were soaked, which is when the light bulb went off, but it still took me another 5 hours to get there. Turns out the coolant temp sensor was reading -40 degrees to the computer, so the PCM was dumping fuel like it was Antarctica in January. It never threw a code for it either. I swapped in a $14 sensor and it fired on the first crank, and I just sat there in the driver seat feeling dumb for a while. Anyone else had a bad coolant temp sensor fool you on a no-start?
