Spent $180 on a used spot weld drill and it paid for itself on one quarter panel
I was cutting spot welds with a regular drill bit and ruining panels for months, so I finally grabbed a used Blair spot weld cutter off a guy in Fresno for $180 last week. Knocked out a rear quarter panel on a 2016 Civic in about 40 minutes instead of the 3 hours it usually takes me, and the panel came off clean with barely any warp. Anyone else got a tool under $200 that ended up being way more useful than expected?
Heard a bunch of guys on a bodywork forum swear by the Astro Pneumatic onboard air hammer kit for popping spot welds. Runs about $120 and hooks to your compressor. They say it walks the weld out without drilling at all, so no metal shavings and way less chance of punching through both panels. Been meaning to grab one myself before my next rocker job.
