My old boss told me I was sanding too fine and I argued with him for 20 minutes
I was blocking out a quarter panel on a 2016 Silverado at the shop in Tulsa and kept jumping to 600 grit before he stopped me. He said 'you're polishing your mistakes instead of fixing them' and told me to stay at 180 until the shape was right. I swallowed my pride and tried it his way, and the panel came out straighter in half the time. Any of you switch up your grit steps after a talk like that?

This hits close to home. Big grit jumps early on just hide the low spots, then you chase them forever with a DA and a glaze. Staying at 180 until the shape is dead on feels slow but it's actually faster. Old guys know what they're talking about way more than we want to admit at the time.
