I asked my neighbor for a cup of sugar and got a 45-minute story about his pet turtle
This was last Tuesday, right after I started baking. I just needed a simple thing, but he invited me in and showed me photos of Sheldon the turtle from 2012. He talked about its diet, its tank setup, everything. I got the sugar, but I was late finishing my cake. Has anyone else had a simple ask turn into a full unexpected life story?

Oh man, I read an article once that said these random talks are actually how a lot of older folks get their social time in. It kind of made me see it differently, even if it drives me nuts when I'm in a hurry. Your cake was on the line though, that's real pain. I guess we're all just one simple question away from an unexpected documentary.
