Just realized I had to pick between two dig sites for my first field school, chose the Roman fort in Wales over the Viking settlement in Norway.

Roman forts are cool, but you passed up the chance to find a real Viking axe.

Remember that time I skipped the old shipwreck?

Honestly, Wales was the right call. Roman forts have layers, literally. You get a clear timeline from the initial earthworks to the stone rebuilds. A Viking site is mostly just one period stuff in a dark, wet hole. Plus, the fort's barracks and granaries tell you how the army actually lived. You can learn way more from a trash pit full of broken pottery than a single cool axe.
