Heard a museum guard in Albuquerque say the pot shards on display were probably just copies, and it threw me
I was at the natural history museum there last month and he mentioned offhand that a lot of the small stuff in cases gets swapped for casts and nobody labels it. Now I catch myself squinting at every sherd in a display and wondering if it's 1,000 years old or made in a basement in 2004. Does anyone know how common replicas actually are in smaller museums?
