Appreciation post: the volunteer at a dig near Tucson who showed me the bucket trick
Three years ago I joined a survey crew outside Tucson and spent my first two days dry brushing a stubborn patch of dirt with almost nothing to show for it. A retired volunteer named Margie walked over and asked why I wasn't wet sieving the soil first. She set up a screen with a garden hose and we pulled 14 tiny beads and a broken shell pendant out of dirt I had already gone over twice. Last month I ran into her again at a lab open house and thanked her for the tip. Does anyone here still dry brush first, or is wet sieving the norm on your sites?
