That old Kenmore taught me more than any modern machine

Back in 2017, I was called out to a farmhouse near Lancaster, Ohio to fix a 1982 Kenmore washer that was leaking. The owner was this retired electrician, and instead of just swapping the pump, he walked me through the whole wiring diagram by hand... we traced every connection. That job took like 3 hours longer than it should've, but I've used that same troubleshooting logic on every machine since, especially the new ones with all their boards. Anyone else find that the older units just make you a better repairer in the long run?
