One comment about my pacing made me redo my entire deck planning

I was at a local meetup in Portland last month, showing my new deck to a few folks. Someone said my shonen fights felt like they dragged, that I spent too long on reaction shots before the actual clash. I thought I was building hype, but they were right, it was like 8 minutes of staring before a single punch landed. So I went back and cut down every reaction beat to one quick frame instead of two. Now my fight sequences hit way faster and I actually feel the momentum. Has anyone else gotten a critique that forced you to tear apart your old habits and start fresh?

My brother-in-law got the same kind of wake-up call at his job last year. He's a cook, and his head chef told him his plate presentations were "too busy," that every garnish was fighting for attention. He spent a whole weekend stripping down his recipes, same way you cut those reaction shots, and now his plates are basically three colors max and they sell out every night. It's funny how that critique thing works, one person says one small thing and suddenly you see the same clutter everywhere, like when you learn a new word and then hear it three times in a day. I did the same thing with my own writing, someone said my paragraphs were too long, so I went through and chopped every sentence that didn't push the action forward. It's not about losing flavor, it's about trusting that the core beats can stand on their own without all the extra padding.
