I hit 47 straight days of watching one episode before bed and it made me rethink the "binge or bust" thing
Six months ago I would've said slowing down ruins a show, I used to crush 12 episodes of a seasonal anime in one night and call it a win. Then in February my sleep got wrecked and I tried a rule: one episode a night, no skipping the OP, and that count hit 47 days straight by the time I checked. Turns out I remember way more of Frieren than any show I binge watched, because I actually had a day to sit with each one. The weekly wait used to bug me but now it feels like the show sticks to my ribs better. Anyone else find that one episode a night beats a 10 hour marathon, or am I just getting old?
One episode a night changed how I watch shows too, and the OP thing is key. I started doing the same back in the fall when my brain would not shut off after a marathon, and now I actually look forward to that 24 minutes instead of using it to numb out. What helped me stick with it was watching earlier, like right after dinner, so the episode was not the last thing between me and sleep. I also keep a little note on my phone with one line about each episode, and going back to read those notes shows me how much I was missing before. The other trick is picking shows that actually reward a slow pace, because some stuff is built for mowing through and will feel boring one at a time. You are not getting old, you just found the way your brain likes to take stories in.
