Serious question, did anyone else find out they were sharpening their chisels the wrong direction for years?
I was at a woodworking meetup in Portland last month and a guy watched me sharpen for two minutes before he asked why I was pushing the blade away from the edge. Turns out I had been grinding the bevel backwards since I bought my first set around 2015, which explains why my 1 inch chisel always felt dull even after 20 passes on the stone. He had me flip it and pull the blade toward me instead, and the burr came up in maybe 4 strokes. Now I feel like I wasted years of Saturday mornings. Anyone else have a basic skill they had backwards this whole time?
