TIL guys are setting bearing preload with a torque wrench and calling it done
I've watched three different A&Ps on my hangar row set wheel bearing preload by torquing the nut to spec and stopping there, no spin check, no feel check, nothing. On a Cessna 172 main wheel last month that left the bearing running tight and warm after 2 taxi runs, and the guy said the book told him so. How are you all checking preload after the torque, or am I the odd one for still doing it by feel?
