Serious question, did a $52 "afternoon blend" sampler box teach me anything besides a lesson?
I know everyone here loves a curated sampler, but I think they're mostly a rip off and I'll say it. I dropped $52 at a shop in Dayton on a six bag afternoon blend box, and four of the bags tasted like the same medium roast with a different label. The roast dates were all within three days of each other too, which tells me they just bagged whatever was sitting around that week. Your mileage may vary, but in my experience a plain $14 bag from a place you trust beats a box of fancy names every time. I'm not saying all samplers are bad, but I'd rather spend that money on two bags I actually pick myself. Has anyone found a sampler that wasn't just the same bean in six bags, or am I being too harsh here?
