The slow cooker that turned my unwind into a near miss

Last Tuesday I set my usual 6-hour slow cooker stew before a rough shift, but the lid seal failed and the whole counter was covered in hot liquid by the time I got home, so has anyone else had a trusty appliance suddenly become a danger after years of use?
