Hot take: skipping the after work walk for a 10 minute couch lie down is a trap
I used to come home and flop straight on the couch for "just 5 minutes" to shake off the day, and last week I timed it. It turned into 47 minutes of doom scrolling, and I got up feeling worse than when I walked in the door. So for the past 6 days I tried the other thing: shoes back on, one lap around my block in Chicago even when it's cold and I don't want to. It's dumb and it's short, but I come back with my head actually cleared and I sleep better too. The couch lie down feels like rest but it's really just a pause button on a bad mood. The walk doesn't fix the day, it just drains it out a little. Now I'm wondering if 10 minutes is even the magic number or if I'm just getting lucky with the weather. What's your minimum to feel like a person again after work, and does anyone else get stuck in the couch trap like I do?
