Appreciation post for the random stranger who fixed my dead microwave at 2am

Last week I was up way too late trying to heat up leftover pizza and my microwave just died. Nothing happened when I pressed start. I was about to toss it when my neighbor who was smoking on his porch saw me cussing at it. He came over and showed me it was just a blown fuse in the back panel. Cost me $2 at the hardware store the next day and it works perfect now. Has anyone else had a random late night fix like that where you almost gave up on something simple?

Blown fuses are probably the most common reason microwaves stop working. I've fixed three different microwaves that way for friends and family. The fuse is usually a cheap ceramic one you can find at any hardware store. Most people don't know there's a fuse in there because it's behind the back panel and not in the user manual. Easy fix but I wouldn't have known either if an old appliance repair guy hadn't told me once.

Man that's a great tip, wish I'd known it sooner.

Most people don't know" - my friend threw out a working dryer over one fuse.
